# Alex Hormozi Captions: How to Make Them

"Alex Hormozi captions" are the big, bold, all-caps captions that show one to three words at a time, pop onto the screen as each word is spoken, and pick out key words in a bright colour. The style is named after the clips of Alex Hormozi, co-founder of Acquisition.com and author of *$100M Offers* ([Acquisition.com](https://www.acquisition.com/)). To make them: auto-transcribe the video, set a heavy sans-serif font in capitals, show only a few words per caption, add a thick outline or shadow, colour one key word per line, and animate each word in as it's said. A caption tool with a matching preset does this in minutes. A video editor gets you the same result with more work and more control.

One caveat before the details: we couldn't find a published spec for the style from Hormozi's team. What follows is the look as caption tools describe and copy it, plus settings you can start from and adjust.

## What makes a caption "Hormozi style"

| Element | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Font | A heavy, condensed sans-serif. See the note on fonts below |
| Case | ALL CAPS |
| Words on screen | One to three at a time, rarely more than two short lines |
| Timing | Each word appears as it's spoken, not a whole sentence at once |
| Emphasis | One key word per caption in an accent colour, sometimes slightly bigger |
| Legibility | A dark outline or drop shadow so white text reads on any background |
| Position | Centred, in the lower middle of the frame |
| Extras | Optional emojis next to or under the line |

**About the font:** caption tools that sell a Hormozi preset don't agree on one. Submagic, for example, describes his older style with TheBoldFont and a newer version with Anton, in upper case with a shadow, and the newer one with a yellow stroke and a pop-in from the bottom ([Submagic](https://www.submagic.co/blog/how-to-make-alex-hormozi-captions)). If you want a free, safe choice, Anton and Montserrat (in its Black or ExtraBold weight) are both on Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License ([Google Fonts: Anton](https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/main/ofl/anton), [Montserrat](https://github.com/google/fonts/tree/main/ofl/montserrat)), so you can use them in commercial videos.

## Settings to start from

Copy these, then adjust to your own video:

- **Font:** Anton, or Montserrat Black.
- **Case:** uppercase.
- **Size:** large. A two-word caption should cover most of the frame's width on a phone.
- **Words per caption:** one to three. Break at natural pauses, not mid-phrase.
- **Lines:** one if you can, two at most.
- **Colours:** white text, a black outline or shadow, and one accent colour for key words. Yellow and green are the usual picks; your brand colour works as long as it contrasts with white.
- **Key words:** numbers, names, the verb that carries the point, the payoff of a joke. One per caption, and not in every caption.
- **Animation:** a short pop or scale-in on each word. Keep it quick so the text is readable the moment it lands.
- **Position:** lower middle, clear of the speaker's face, and away from the bottom and right edges, where TikTok, Reels and Shorts draw their buttons and post text.
- **Emojis:** a few, where they add meaning. An emoji on every line becomes noise.

## Method 1: An AI caption tool with a preset (fastest)

AI caption tools transcribe the video with word-level timing, split the transcript into short captions and animate them for you. Several offer a ready-made "Hormozi" preset; Submagic, for one, names its templates after him. Any tool with word-by-word animation and keyword colouring can get the same look.

Here's how to do it in Exemplary AI (our product):

1. **Upload the video or paste a link.** Uploads can be MP4, MOV, WEBM or MKV, and links from YouTube, TikTok, Vimeo or X work. If it's a long recording (10 minutes or more), [AI Clips](https://exemplary.ai/ai-clips) will cut it into short vertical clips with captions first.
2. **Pick a word-by-word animation.** Pop word and Highlight word are the closest to the Hormozi look. There are also Karaoke, Box spotlight and Bazooka.
3. **Set the text style.** Choose uppercase, a heavy font such as Anton, one line, and a text shadow. Set the highlight colour.
4. **Highlight key words.** Click the words you want in the accent colour, or let AI word highlight pick and colour them for you ([how word highlights work](https://exemplary.ai/word-highlight-in-subtitle)). AI word highlight is on paid plans.
5. **Proofread.** Correct names, numbers and jargon in the captions.
6. **Export the clip as an MP4.** On paid plans you can save the style as a brand template so every future clip matches.

Transcription covers 99 languages. On the free plan, exports carry a watermark; see [pricing](https://exemplary.ai/pricing). More styles are on the [animated subtitles](https://exemplary.ai/animated-subtitles) page.

## Method 2: CapCut

CapCut lists auto captions, text templates, keyframe animation and fonts you can import yourself among its features ([App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/capcut-photo-video-editor/id1500855883)), which covers everything the style needs:

1. Generate auto captions for the clip and correct any wrong words.
2. Import Anton or Montserrat if they aren't in CapCut's font list. Apply the font, a white fill and a black stroke or shadow to the captions, and use capitals.
3. Shorten long captions so each shows only a few words.
4. Select individual key words and change their colour.
5. Add a pop or scale-in animation, or use keyframes on the words you want to punch.

CapCut's menus change between versions, so we've kept these steps general. For the exact buttons, see our guide to [adding subtitles in CapCut](https://exemplary.ai/blog/add-subtitles-in-capcut).

## Method 3: DaVinci Resolve

DaVinci Resolve 20, announced in April 2025, added **AI Animated Subtitles**, which animate words as they are spoken. You generate a subtitle track on the timeline, then drag one of the animated Fusion title templates onto the subtitle track header to change the look and motion ([Blackmagic Design](https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/media/partial/release/20250404-02)). Resolve's edit page can also transcribe clips to create the subtitles in the first place ([Blackmagic Design](https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/edit)). Pick the template whose motion you like, then set the font, size and colours in the Inspector.

Blackmagic's announcement doesn't say whether AI Animated Subtitles is in the free version or only in the paid DaVinci Resolve Studio, so check your copy before you plan around it.

## Method 4: By hand, in any editor

If your editor has text layers and keyframes, you can build the style without any caption feature:

1. Export or copy the transcript with timestamps (an [SRT file](https://exemplary.ai/blog/srt-vs-vtt) is ideal).
2. Split it into chunks of one to three words.
3. Make one text layer per chunk, styled as above, and trim each to the moment those words are spoken.
4. Colour the key word in each chunk.
5. Add a two- or three-frame scale keyframe (for example 90% to 105% to 100%) at the start of each layer for the pop.
6. Duplicate the finished layer for each new chunk so the style stays identical.

It's slow, so it makes sense for one important clip, not a weekly batch.

## Mistakes that make it look cheap

- **Too many words at once.** Once a caption holds a full sentence, the pace, and the point of the style, is gone.
- **Highlighting everything.** If every other word is yellow, nothing stands out. One key word per caption is plenty.
- **Captions over the face or under the app's buttons.** Check the clip in the app's own preview before you post.
- **Uncorrected auto captions.** A misspelled name or a wrong number on screen in huge capitals is worse than no caption. Proofread.
- **Late or early words.** Word-by-word captions only work if the timing is tight. Nudge any word that lands visibly off the audio.
- **Animation that's too slow.** If a word takes half a second to settle, viewers read it late. Keep the pop short.

## Should you copy the style exactly?

Use it as a starting point, not a costume. The parts that do the work (few words, big type, tight timing, one emphasised word) help any talking-head clip, especially for people watching with the sound off. The surface details (the exact font and the yellow) are what make it read as someone else's style. Swap in your own accent colour and font, save that as your template, and use it everywhere so viewers start to recognise *your* clips.

## FAQ

### What font does Alex Hormozi use for his captions?

We couldn't find a statement from his team. Caption tools that copy the style use heavy condensed fonts: Submagic names TheBoldFont for his older look and Anton for the newer one. Anton and Montserrat Black are free on Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License.

### What colour are Hormozi captions?

White text with a dark outline or shadow, plus an accent colour on key words. Submagic's version of the newer style uses yellow. Any single bright colour that contrasts with white works.

### How many words should be on screen at once?

One to three. That keeps the captions in step with the speaker and readable at a glance on a phone.

### Can I make Hormozi-style captions for free?

Yes, by hand in any free editor with text layers and keyframes. Whether automatic captions and presets are free depends on the tool and plan. Exemplary AI's free plan includes the word-by-word animations, but exports carry a watermark and automatic key-word highlighting is on paid plans.

### Do Hormozi captions get more views?

We haven't found a controlled study that isolates this caption style, so we won't quote a number. Captions do help anyone watching muted. The reliable test is your own: post similar clips with and without the style and compare average watch time in your analytics.
