Hindi recordings come from Indian-American families, creators, lectures and interviews, and they often mix in English words, the way Hindi is spoken day to day.

Hinglish, Devanagari and Urdu

Everyday Hindi switches into English freely, and the transcript keeps what was said, in Devanagari for the Hindi. Spoken Hindi and Urdu are close enough that speakers understand each other, but Urdu is written in its own script; if the speaker uses Urdu, pick Urdu instead (see Urdu transcription).

Respect is built into Hindi: three words for "you" (aap, tum, tu) and the suffix -ji after a name, as in Sharma-ji. English loses both, so the polite tone of a family elder or a teacher comes across through word choice only.

Lakh, crore and rupees

Indian English and Hindi count large amounts in lakh (100,000) and crore (10 million), and write 1,00,000 with commas in different places. A budgeting or finance video is where to check that every amount reads right in the English for a US audience.

For the Hindi text itself, see Hindi transcription and Hindi subtitles.

What it does

Hindi In, English Out

The Hindi transcript comes first, so you check it before it becomes English.

Both languages, line by line

Each English line sits under its Hindi line, with the same timestamp.

English subtitles on the video

Show English as subtitles plays the translation over the recording before you download it.

Mixed Hindi and English

Hinglish recordings stay as spoken in the transcript, and the whole line comes out in English for US viewers.

Amounts a US viewer reads

Check lakh and crore figures in the English so a finance or budgeting video makes sense outside India.

Questions

Common questions

How do I translate Hindi audio to English for free?
On the Free plan (500 one-time credits; files up to 500 MB and 30 min long; 720p video exports with a watermark): upload the Hindi recording or paste its link, translate the transcript into English in the Translations panel, and download it.
Does it dub Hindi audio into English?
No. You get English text: a transcript and subtitles for the Hindi recording, with no synthetic voice.
What if the Hindi recording mixes in English?
Mixed Hindi and English speech is common. The transcript keeps what was said, and the translation turns all of it into English. Check the transcript on a short clip first if the mix is heavy.
How are lakh and crore handled when Hindi is translated to English?
A lakh is 100,000 and a crore is 10 million. Read every amount in the English against the Hindi transcript, especially in finance videos meant for a US audience.
Should I choose Hindi or Urdu for my recording?
Spoken Hindi and Urdu overlap a lot, but they are written in different scripts. Pick the language the speaker considers their own; Urdu has its own option and its own transcription page.
