The task
A security questionnaire asks for claims that must be current and specific to the product being evaluated. An agent can map each question to approved policies and evidence, draft a response and identify where a control owner must confirm the answer. Missing proof stays visible instead of becoming an unsupported “yes.”
What you provide
Buyer questionnaire
Include question IDs, required answer formats and the product or deployment being assessed.
Approved evidence collection
Provide current security policies, control descriptions and approved summaries of audit evidence. Exclude documents the buyer is not permitted to receive.
Disclosure and review rules
Identify control owners, evidence expiry dates and material that requires controlled sharing rather than attachment to a response.
Give the agent a clear brief
Use these instructions as a starting point, alongside your approved sources and permissions.
Answer each question for the specified product and deployment using approved evidence. Cite the relevant policy or evidence record and its review date. Flag expired evidence, conflicting scope and missing proof. Never infer certification or compliance from an unrelated document. Keep restricted reports out of the response and mark them for controlled sharing. Return a draft for the control owner to approve.
How the work comes together
Establish the assessment scope
Identify the evaluated product, deployment model and applicable period before retrieving evidence. A control in one environment does not establish support in another.
Match answers to evidence
Retrieve the supporting passages and preserve dates and qualifications. Distinguish a written policy from evidence that a control actually operated.
Create the assurance review queue
Return answers, citations and unresolved questions together. Flag confidential attachments for a separate approved sharing process.
Illustrative example · fictional data
Three questions, three evidence states
A fictional assessment includes an approved Access Standard, a Recovery Procedure and an expired test report. These are not Exemplary AI certification claims.
| Question | Draft or next step | Evidence or follow-up |
|---|---|---|
| Q-12 · Access review process | System owners review group membership quarterly. Control owner to confirm current operation. | Access Standard §5 |
| Q-24 · Latest recovery test | Current evidence needed | Supplied test report has expired |
| Q-31 · Recovery commitment | Confirm product-specific commitment | Procedure is not a contractual SLA |
A response draft is not an attestation. The security owner approves the final wording and any supporting disclosure.
The human review
Security and compliance owners verify the evidence, assessment scope and response wording. Confidential reports are shared only through the approved process.
Set it up for your team
Assign evidence ownership
Record who maintains each control, its scope and the date on which supporting material must be reviewed.
Separate public and restricted sources
Apply source access controls and explicit disclosure rules. A document being retrievable does not make it shareable with a buyer.
Define the response format
Preserve question identifiers, allowed answer values and a separate column for evidence and reviewer notes.
Check the result before scaling
Test expired reports, unsupported yes/no claims, conflicting environments and restricted attachments. Check that the draft cites the right evidence and consistently flags unknowns.
Keep the data in the right place
Assurance material may describe internal controls and infrastructure. Keep restricted evidence within your deployment and separate retrieval permissions from permission to disclose an answer or attachment.

Can AI complete a security questionnaire automatically?
It can prepare a draft from approved evidence. Control owners still need to verify scope, freshness and the final claims before submission.
What if a requested certification is not in the evidence?
Mark the question for the security owner. Do not infer certification from a policy document, another product or an expired report.
Can confidential audit reports stay private?
Yes. Configure restricted sources and disclosure rules so a response can point to an approved sharing process without including the report’s contents.
