Best AI Video Editors for YouTube (2026)
10 AI video editors compared for YouTube: Descript, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, Clipchamp and more, with free tiers and prices checked Sept 2026.

The best AI video editor for YouTube depends on the job. For editing talking-head videos and podcasts by editing the transcript, Descript is the strongest all-rounder. For a free desktop editor with pro-grade tools, DaVinci Resolve (free version; AI features in the paid Studio version). For professional timelines with generative AI, Adobe Premiere (formerly Premiere Pro). For quick free edits in the browser, Clipchamp or Kapwing. For cutting long videos into Shorts, an AI clipping tool such as Opus Clip or Exemplary AI. The table below compares ten tools on price, free tier and what their AI actually does, as of September 2026.
Disclosure: Exemplary AI is our product. We've tried to judge it by the same criteria as everything else, and we say where other tools are the better choice. Prices were checked on each vendor's own pricing page in September 2026 and change often; follow the links for current numbers.
How we compared them
We looked at what a YouTube creator needs from an AI editor:
- What the AI does: transcript editing, silence and filler-word removal, captions, reframing, clip finding, generation.
- Free tier: whether you can export without a watermark, and at what resolution.
- Price: the lowest paid plan, and whether it's billed monthly or annually.
- Learning curve: how quickly a new editor gets a publishable video.
No ranking is implied by the order below; each tool is listed with what it's best for.

The tools, one by one
Descript
Descript transcribes your video and lets you cut it by deleting words from the transcript. Its AI co-editor, Underlord, and tools such as Studio Sound, Eye Contact, green screen and filler-word removal are on every plan, with limited use on Free; each plan's AI credits cap how much you can use them (Descript pricing). Caption translation (61 languages), AI dubbing (30 languages) and custom avatars are also on every plan, limited on Free; Business adds translation proofreading.
- Where it's better than Exemplary AI: full long-form editing, multitrack recording and audio cleanup. If you're editing the main YouTube video, not just clipping it, Descript does more.
- Watch out for: the free plan exports at 720p with a watermark, and media hours and AI credits cap each plan.
DaVinci Resolve
A complete editing, colour, audio and effects application with a free version. Version 21 is current as of September 2026. The paid Studio version ($295, one-time) adds the DaVinci AI Neural Engine, which powers tools such as smart reframing, voice isolation, object detection, facial recognition and auto colour (Blackmagic Design).
- Best for: creators who want a free, no-watermark editor and are willing to learn a professional tool. The one-time Studio price is less than two years of Descript Hobbyist ($16 x 24 = $384) or Adobe Premiere ($22.99 x 24 = $551.76) at September 2026 prices.
- Watch out for: the learning curve. It's a pro tool, not a one-click editor.
Adobe Premiere
Adobe now calls Premiere Pro simply Adobe Premiere. Its AI features include Generative Extend (adds frames to the start or end of a clip, powered by Firefly; uses generative credits) and Media Intelligence search (finds clips by what's in them) (Adobe blog, April 2025). Adobe's product page says Premiere transcribes video automatically on import for Text-Based Editing and can translate captions into 18 languages. Plans start at US$22.99/month on an annual plan, billed monthly, and Premiere on mobile is a free standalone app (Adobe).
- Best for: editors who already work in Adobe apps and want AI assistance inside a professional timeline.
- Watch out for: subscription only for desktop, and generative features consume credits.
Clipchamp
Microsoft's browser editor. The free plan exports watermark-free at up to 1080p and includes AI subtitles, text-to-speech voiceovers and silence removal. Premium is included with Microsoft 365 Personal and Family (Clipchamp pricing).
- Best for: beginners and anyone on Windows who wants a free editor with no watermark.
- Watch out for: fewer advanced tools than desktop editors.
Kapwing
A collaborative browser editor with AI subtitles, text-to-speech and dubbing. Free exports carry a watermark, are limited to 720p and 4 minutes, and include 10 minutes of auto-subtitling. Pro is $16/month billed annually or $24 monthly, with 1,000 subtitle minutes and 50 dubbing minutes a month (Kapwing pricing).
- Best for: small teams that edit together in the browser.
- Watch out for: free exports carry a watermark and are capped at 4 minutes and 720p.
VEED
A browser editor with auto subtitles, brand kits and AI tools. Free and logged-out exports carry the VEED watermark, and VEED's help center says only a paid subscription removes it (VEED Help Center). The paid plans are Creator, Pro, Studio and Enterprise; VEED lists prices in your local currency, so check VEED's pricing page.
- Best for: quick subtitle-heavy social edits in the browser.
CapCut
A free editor for mobile, desktop and web with templates, effects and AI tools. The Standard version covers core editing; Pro unlocks premium templates, effects and advanced AI tools. CapCut says Pro pricing varies by region, device and promotion (CapCut Help).
- Best for: fast, trend-driven vertical edits on a phone.
- Watch out for: check which AI features need Pro before you build a workflow around them, and check availability in your country.
Wisecut
Automatically cuts silences, adds captions and adds background music. The free plan gives 30 minutes a month at 480p with exports up to 3 minutes. Starter, US$189/year, covers editing only; Starter+ adds Autopilot and social scheduling for US$23.25/month billed annually (Wisecut pricing).
- Best for: a quick first rough cut of a talking-head video.
- Watch out for: the free plan exports at 480p and up to 3 minutes, below the HD most viewers expect.
invideo AI
Generates videos from a text prompt using generative video models, with a timeline editor for changes. Plans are credit-based, from $9/month billed annually; its pricing page lists no free plan and says unused credits don't roll over (invideo pricing).
- Best for: faceless or explainer videos made from a script, not editing footage you shot.
Exemplary AI (our product)
Exemplary AI is built for repurposing: it transcribes a long video, suggests clips around its most engaging moments, reframes the speaker to vertical with active speaker detection, and adds animated captions. You can edit clips through the transcript, remove silences and filler words, add B-roll automatically, and export subtitles as SRT or VTT. Transcription covers 99 languages as of September 2026, which helps if your channel isn't in English. There's a free plan; see pricing.
- Best for: turning podcasts, interviews and webinars into Shorts, Reels and TikToks, and getting transcripts, subtitles and timestamps for the long video.
- Where others are better: for editing the main long-form video, use Descript, Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve. For generating video from a prompt, use invideo AI.

FAQ
Is there a free AI video editor with no watermark?
Yes. DaVinci Resolve's free version and Clipchamp's free plan (up to 1080p, per Clipchamp) both export without a watermark. Descript, Kapwing, VEED and Exemplary AI watermark free exports.
Can AI edit a whole YouTube video for me?
Partly. AI tools reliably handle transcription, captions, silence and filler-word removal, reframing and clip suggestions. Story structure, pacing and what to cut for meaning still need a person. Tools like Descript's Underlord can draft edits, but review them before you publish.
What's the best AI video editor for beginners?
Clipchamp or CapCut for a free, simple start; Descript if your videos are mostly people talking, because editing text is easier than editing a timeline.
What's the best AI tool for turning long videos into Shorts?
An AI clipping tool, which finds moments, reframes to vertical and adds captions in one pass. YouTube Studio also has a free Clips and Shorts tool with AI suggestions in some countries. See how to create YouTube Shorts from long videos.
Are AI video editors worth paying for?
If you publish weekly, the time saved on captions and rough cuts usually justifies a plan. Try the free tier first with one real video and check export quality and limits before you pay.
